This is dope. this is real deep! Film entitled Fruitvale Station is a film based on the true story of the late Oscar Grant who was fatally gunned down by an officer in 2009 on New Years Day at Fruitvale BART station in Oakland, Ca. This film follows Oscar, played by Michael B. Jordan, on his final day before the tragic shooting. This film was directed by first time director, USC graduate, and Oakland native, Ryan Coogler. It has already won awards at festivals and is on the lineup to be shown at Cannes this summer.

Fruitvale Station really hits close to home because I was home when it happened. Everyone that I know uses BART at one point or another, New Years is one of the most popular times to use the BART. I was ON BART earlier this very day. I remember being out on that night and hearing about something happening at the BART station and just saying to myself how thankful i was that me and my homeboys hadn’t taken the BART this year. I just cant believe its been four years already since this tragedy.

This film is good for Oakland, it’s good for Oscars story which is like many stories of those who look just like me and my brothers. I look forward to seeing this film in its entirety and i hope that this story sheds light on the issues of police brutality, wakes up our people and this whole nation. RIP OSCAR
